Eat Smart - Think Smart - Be Smart

Better Future Generation

A child's brain is a work in progress, wired to grow circuits called neurons and synapses. These neurons and synapses are ready to be programmed to absorb math, music, language, emotions. If we can grrom the brain thinking right things including right eating and managing emotions , they would be a lot more healthy and resilient. More resilient brains perform better.

Health Knowledge

Simple health education is important. The food you eat can have a major impact on your health. Smart food choices help provide the energy you need to enjoy life and all it has to offer. In addition, eating smart can reduce your risk for diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, certain types of cancer and osteoporosis.

Healthy Cooking

Delicious. Simple. Affordable. Quick. Bring simple cooking back to life. Choose cooking oils that contain more of the “better-for-you” fats and less saturated fat. After everyone has taken their desired portion of the great dinner you made, you can put the leftovers in containers and store them in the fridge rather than overeating.

Family Meal Time

These days, we eat more food away from home compared to generations. Eating together with your family for about 20 minutes only three to five times a week is all it takes to enjoy many benefits of family mealtime. Children who grow up sharing family meals are more likely to exhibit prosocial behavior as adults, such as sharing, fairness and respect.

Healthier Grocery

Read food nutrition labels, even for so-called “healthier” foods. Ingredients and nutrient content can vary a lot by brand and preparation. When there’s more than one choice, compare labels. Choose the item with the lowest amounts of sodium, saturated fat, trans fat and added sugars. Beware of sneaky ingredients. For example, sodium and added sugars go by many different names, making it harder to tell just how much is in there.

Think Smart

Life pattern is changing and what you see in children amazes you as you have never seen this. Certain everyday situations can overwhelm young children, causing them to over-react with emotions that prevent clear thinking. THINK SMART teaches children to ‘take a moment’ when dealing with everyday situations such as patience, sharing, resilience, and thinking of others. Ideal for the home and the classroom.

Limiting Screen Time

Screen time management strategies include rules, routines, transitions and choices. Rules can help to set limits and manage children’s expectations about screen time..It’s important to involve all family members when making family rules about screen use. The rules should be flexible enough to cover school days, weekends and holidays. The rules also need to take into account changing needs and interests as your child grows.

Why is it important

Obesity is now one of the largest contributors to poor health in most countries, with rates having risen steadily around the world over the past four to five decades.1Researchers have used the term ‘nutrition transition’ to describe major shifts in diet and activity patterns that are leading to increased rates of obesity and chronic diseases.

Obesity is rising , almost 2/3 of the population in the Uk and other developed countries is overweight or obese. The environment is obesogenic.

Major shifts in diet and activity patterns are leading to increased rates of obesity and chronic diseases around the world. This ‘nutrition transition’ has already taken place in high-income countries and is now rapidly occurring in low and middle-income countries. Transnational food and beverage companies (‘Big Food’) are having a negative effect on global and local food systems.

Mental health problems are also rising and early introduction of the methods to identify and cope will make a significant impact for future generation.

What will we do:

What school will do:

  • The head teacher will commit to provide support to teachers and teaching assistants to be trained in and then teach the students for better life style, healthy eating and better thinking through Eat Smart Think Smart Programme.
  • Promote the programme to children and parents so that healthy habits are sustained and promoted both school and at home.
  • Provide healthy meals at school and engage children in physical activity.
  • Most of these things schools do any way, however we might help putting a structure and simplify the approach for practical implementation that will be effective and rewarding.
